New Form for Employment Eligibility Verification

On November 7, 2007, the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services issued a new Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification.  The new form contains changes to the list of acceptable documents for employment eligibility verification. Employers must begin using the new form by December 26, 2007.  If the new form is not used, the employer may be subject to fines and other penalties. The new Form I-9 may be identified by the revision date which is printed on the lower right corner of the form and says “(Rev. 06/05/07)N.”  You may download it at http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/i-9.pdf. A revised set of instructions, the M-274 “Handbook for Employers, Instructions for Completing the Form I-9,” may also be downloaded at http://www.uscis.gov/files/nativedocuments/m-274.pdf.
